Fitbit Edge Launches Today: Confirmed Details, Leaked Specs, and Price

Today is the day Google has been teasing for a week: the Fitbit Edge officially launches on Monday, October 12. Google Health's own teaser post on October 9 said it plainly — "Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26." But while the launch date is confirmed, Google has kept the actual specs and price under wraps. So what do we actually know versus what is still rumour? Here is a clear-eyed breakdown.

What Google has officially confirmed

The confirmed facts are few but solid. Google has officially teased the Fitbit Edge and confirmed the October 12 launch date through its Google Health channels, as reported by 9to5Google and GSMArena. The device slots into an interesting gap in Google's lineup: above the screenless Fitbit Air at around $99 and below the Pixel Watch 5 at around $400. In practice, it is widely seen as the successor to the Fitbit Charge 6 from 2023 — a proper fitness band with a real display, not a smartwatch. The announcement itself is expected to land during US daytime hours, which means readers in India may see the full reveal late in the evening IST.

What the leaks claim (not confirmed yet)

Leaked specifications, which Google has not verified, paint an ambitious picture. According to reports from Stuff.tv, GSMArena, and 9to5Google, the Edge may carry a 1.34-inch AMOLED touchscreen with always-on display, a roughly 7-day battery life (dropping to about 2 days with always-on enabled), 40 exercise modes, Bluetooth 5.4, built-in GPS, an altimeter/barometer, ECG and atrial-fibrillation detection, a skin-temperature sensor, and SpO2 tracking. Water resistance is claimed at IP68 plus 5ATM, the weight at just 17.7 grams, and fast charging is said to give a full day of use from five minutes. Some leaks even mention a user-replaceable battery and Gemini-powered coaching, with support for both Android and iOS — unlike the Pixel Watch. Take all of this with caution: leaks about pricing have been consistent though, pointing to roughly €179 in the Eurozone, £159 in the UK, and around $180 in the US.

Why this launch matters

A $180 tracker with ECG, week-long battery, and iPhone support would put serious pressure on Apple's Watch SE line and on every budget fitness band on the market. The real question is whether the leaked specs survive contact with reality. If even most of them prove true, the Edge becomes the most interesting fitness device of the year in its price band. If the specs fall short, the story flips to whether Google still knows how to sell hardware in the fitness category. We will update this story once the official announcement lands.
